About University of Surrey

The University of Surrey is a leading research and higher education institution in the United Kingdom, known for its strengths in space technology and water research, among other fields.

The University has a strong legacy in space technology and satellite engineering, largely driven by its Surrey Space Centre (SSC) and its commercial spin-off, Surrey Satellite Technology Limited (SSTL). These have positioned Surrey as a global leader in small satellite innovation. Key contributions include the pioneering small satellite technology: SSTL has developed and launched over 70 small satellites, significantly advancing Earth observation, telecommunications, and navigation.

The University of Surrey is also recognized for its water research. The University's Centre for Environmental Health and Engineering (CEHE) has long been a World Health Organization (WHO) collaborating centre. In the last decade, this centre has expanded its research capabilities to address water sustainability challenges through the use of Earth observation data and numerical modelling. Examples of this expertise include catchment scale studies on the sustainable land and water resources use in Bolivia, Afghanistan and Spain, and its extensive current research in the implementation and monitoring of nature based solutions for flood and drought resilience.
