About Water, Energy and Sustainability Research Center, Catholic University of Bolivia
The Center for Research on Water, Energy and Sustainability (CINAES for its name in Spanish) is a part of the Department of Engineering (Environmental Engineering) at the Universidad Catolica Boliviana (UCB), Bolivia. Since 2017, our focus is on scientific research, engineering in practice, engineering and science education, community outreach, public awareness and engagement. The spectrum of topics is wide in response to the multiple challenges of the developing world, including water management and planning, water conservation, wastewater and solid waste, air quality and lately we are beginning our journey in the ultimate challenge of the global society: environmental health and climate change.
Our main purpose is to make a contribution to the society to enrich understanding through engagement, education, and applied research. Our approaches are as well wide and varied, considering the obstacles and challenges from economically constrained environments; we generate information from field and remotely sensed data, considering the value and importance of a mutual concordance between both. At an international level, we have active collaboration with projects and initiatives with universities from Spain, Portugal and France in Europe; Japan in Asia; USA, Colombia, Paraguay, Chile in North and South America, and we are heading to build up collaborations with institutions in Perú, Costa Rica, Sweden and Denmark. Such network is gradually growing and bonds are constantly being strengthened considering the high value of transboundary and transdisciplinary collaboration to contribute the the mutual understanding among cultures and the growth of science as a resource that belongs to the advance of our civilization. Inside our university,
CINAES is the most dynamic research Center, relying on a strong commitment of students and graduates, and the support of a team of researchers with big dreams and expectations. CINAES is at the Universidad Catolica Boliviana, a non-profit University founded in 1966, with a student population of 20307, 109 programs, 8 research institutes and 16 research centers, with campus distributed in six cities in Bolivia.
