Biography
Rebecca is a PhD student in Civil Engineering at Washington State University specializing in water resources engineering. She is also an intern at NASA Jet Propulsion Lab (JPL). Her research includes a wide spectrum of topics related to water resources and climate change. She has expertise in both remote sensing and modeling and incorporates a variety of tools in her research.
She has worked on projects about managing fire risk in municipal watersheds in the Pacific Northwest, habitat conservation in the California Bay Delta, and forecasting future changes in snowmelt in the Columbia River Basin. She has worked on use-inspired research projects focused on informing management decisions. Therefore, she has expertise in engaging with stakeholders to develop research questions.
Rebecca has an interdisciplinary background. She studied global health and engineering during her undergrad. She has held positions researching water as a vital resource to sustain human health and well-being. She spent 6 months studying community-based research methods in Northeast Thailand, where she learned to speak Thai. Because of her interdisciplinary background, Rebecca is interested in research topics related to water resources, food and water security, and human development.
