Biography

I am Dr Pankaj Kumar, currently working as an Associate Professor, Soil and Water Conservation Engineering at G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar Uttarakhand, India. My research pursuits focus squarely on watershed sciences, hydrological modeling, ecosystem services assessment, geoinformatics (with a keen eye on water, soil erosion, hydrometeorological disasters, and land use and cover dynamics), and the integration of machine learning into these domains. I worked on the UNEP-funded "TEEB Agri-Food” project in Uttarakhand Himalaya, India, focusing on the assessment of ecosystem services and scenario analysis to evaluate the impact of interventions across natural, human, social, and manufactured capitals within the agricultural food chain while considering the effects of climate change on the region's ecosystem. I am an ECC-ICRS member of the International Association of Hydrological Sciences. I am currently also working as lead training at the Australia-India Water Center. I was a visiting scholar at Pennsylvania State University in 2023. My journey continues to be a profound exploration of the Himalayan region's ecological intricacies and its sustainable future.
