Biography

Momodou Senghore is an Environmental Analyst at the National Early Warning and Response Mechanism Coordinating Centre (NCCRM) under the Office of the Vice President of The Gambia, a position he has held since March 2022. At NCCRM, Momodou is tasked to alert the government of potential human security threats related to environment and climate change; propose appropriate responses; activate and coordinate national and sub-regional level response actors; and monitor the implementation of response related actions. He is engaged in collection, analysis, and generation of timely reports with recommendations from open-source information or data largely based on engendered pre-determined human security indicators such as climate stress, ecosystem modification, food insecurity, land control disputes, pollution, urbanization and water management.

He currently serves as Chairperson of the Multi-Hazard Early Warning and Response Technical Working Group (MH-EWR TWG), which he helped establish to coordinate risk analysis and response planning on environmental hazards such as flash floods, droughts, and windstorms. His facilitation of joint stakeholder analysis has advanced data-driven early warning and response mechanisms in The Gambia. He is also the NCCRM’s focal point to the Information Management Working Group (IMWG) under the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) contributed to improved data interoperability and the development of disaster tracking dashboards. He represents the Centre in several national and regional forums, including representing NCCRM in Space4Water activities under the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs. His leadership successfully positioned NCCRM as an official stakeholder in global dialogues on the use of space-based technology to address water challenges. Momodou’s technical contributions extend to cutting-edge urban climate risk initiatives. As NCCRM focal point for the Urban Heat Island (UHI) Transformative Pilot under the MRV for Climate Action project, he provided guidance on geospatial analysis, indicator selection, and data standardization. His input was critical in shaping responses to urban vulnerabilities linked to rising temperatures and poor land cover dynamics.

Prior to joining NCCRM, Momodou served as a mathematics teacher for over a decade, working in both rural and urban schools under the Catholic Education Secretariat and New Life Children’s Centre. His work in education deepened his understanding of socio-economic inequalities and built the emotional intelligence and ethical foundation that continue to guide his public service. He remains a values-driven professional, consistently advocating for environmental justice, gender responsiveness, and community participation in all decision-making processes.

Academically, Momodou holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Meteorology and Hydrology and a BSc in Mathematics with a minor in Economics, both from the University of The Gambia. His postgraduate research examined the effects of meteorological drought on crop yield in the North Bank Region. He also holds a Primary Teachers’ Certificate from The Gambia College. He has participated in numerous national and international trainings on climate change, disaster risk reduction, and early warning systems.
