Introducing the new episode of our Space4Water Webinar Series!

Our new installment of the Space4Water Webinar Series, "From Data to Action," brings together water experts, practitioners, and institutions to explore how space-based data, technologies, and knowledge can be translated into practical solutions for water management and decision-making.

Join us on 2 December for our next webinar: “Converging Currents: Recommendations to Align Space and Water Policy Agendas in Europe,” with the European Space Policy Institute (ESPI).

Space applications already contribute significantly to core freshwater policy priorities, ranging from flood and drought mitigation to water supply and resource management. However, the adoption of space solutions tends to remain heavily concentrated in passive monitoring across established use cases. Maximizing impact requires a transition towards more proactive, operational, and localized applications.

The objective of this webinar is to present the findings of ESPI’s recent report on "Converging Currents – Recommendations to Align Space and Water Policy Agendas in Europe,” which it will use as a springboard to discuss how to position space as an integral component of freshwater management solutions and how it can be leveraged to better address existing water policy challenges.

Grounded in an evidence-based assessment of national freshwater policy priorities across 32 European countries and 250+ European-led freshwater-related space applications, the study provides recommendations to ensure the translation of freshwater policy priorities into space-based implementation. It emphasizes the importance of co-designing solutions with diverse water sector actors to deliver tangible operational value.

The panel convenes sectoral experts to discuss the outcomes of the report and co-develop concrete pathways to increase alignment between space and water policy priorities. Confirmed speakers include:

  • Angelica Gutierrez, Programme Lead at GEOGLOWS
  • Maria Salvetti, Lead on Water at Florence School of Regulation

The Space4Water Webinar Series "From Data to Action" brings together experts, practitioners and institutions to explore how space-based data, technologies and knowledge can be translated into practical solutions for water management and decision-making. The series will feature scientific advances, operational tools, applied projects and real-world experience across areas such as water availability, drought and floods, agriculture, groundwater, climate resilience, ecosystems and river-basin management. It will also provide a platform for Space4Water stakeholders, experts and thematic working groups to share results, solutions and lessons learned, while offering new organizations and specialists an entry point into the Space4Water community.
