Water management

This webinar is organised by the IWA “Sustainability in the Water Sector” Specialist Group in collaboration with the African Water Association (AfWA), and it is also connected to the IWA Inclusive Urban Sanitation (IUS) Initiative.

The ISPRS will host the first Geospatial Week in Africa and Middle East in Egypt, 2023; with the the "Remote Sensing for Better Future". The ISPRS Geospatial Week (GSW) is a combination of workshops organised by about 30 ISPRS Working Groups active in areas of interest of ISPRS.The GSW will provide a platform for international scholars, graduate students, future scientists and industrial sectors to learn exchange knowledge and experiences of applying geospatial technologies for sustainable development for better quality of life for people around the world.

This year, at the invitation of the Moroccan authorities and in partnership with the Ministry of Equipment and Water of the Kingdom of Morocco, the International Network of Basin Organizations (INBO) and the World Water Council (WWC), the 3rd International Conference on Water and Climate (ICWC 3) will be held on 6 and 7 July 2023 in Fez, Morocco.

The 40th IAHR World Congress in Vienna, Austria, from August 21st to 25th, 2023. 

The main theme of the 40th IAHR World Congress will be “Rivers – Connecting Mountains and Coasts” focusing attention on the importance of considering the integral water cycle to address present and future challenges.

The Young Water Professionals BeNeLux conference gathers enthusiastic professionals working on research, public sector and industry from the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg. This is a great opportunity to broaden your scope on water-related topics and create a network including different actors. This edition will be held at the Delft University of Technology, located in a popular touristic destination in the Netherlands famous for being the birthplace of microbiology under the discoveries of Antonie van Leeuwenhoek and Martinus Beijerinck. 

The IWA Water and Development Congress & Exhibition is a forum for showcasing new science, technology and practical solutions across the entire water cycle that can work at scale in low- and middle-income countries. 

With an overarching theme of 

                               water, sanitation, and climate resilience – keys to a water-wise future 

the 2023 edition will present solutions spanning water and sanitation services, the role of water in urban areas, the links between cities and basins, and the opportunities to achieve climate resilience.

This online interactive session explores the ways how to better involve indigenous people in the governance of transboundary waters and practical examples of the role of indigenous people in transboundary water management.

The aim of this interactive online session is to explore the ways of the inclusion of indigenous people in the governance of transboundary water resources. The session will provide participants with theoretical approaches and same case examples of how indigenous people have engaged in the governance of transboundary basins from across the globe. 

IHE Delft is organizing a Water Action Agenda Symposium in cooperation with the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management to drive progress in the implementation of the commitments that form the agenda.

The Water Action Agenda is a key result of the UN 2023 Water Conference, held in March 2023. It includes over 830 voluntary commitments made by the international water community to accelerate efforts toward Sustainable Development Goal 6, which calls for universal water and sanitation access.

Abstract: Arid regions are known for their limited water resource potential. The sustainable management of water resources in these areas is a permanent challenge, due to the growing demand, linked to population growth coupled with the negative impacts of climate change. The GIRE3D 4th edition 2023 is an opportunity for all water stakeholders to exchange methodologies adapted to the exploitation and management of water in such contexts.

Satellite applications deliver a wide range of social, environmental as well as economic benefits to citizens of Europe and the world. Despite the many successful examples of use of satellite-based services at the regional and local levels, and the programmes implemented at local and European scales to make available funds to develop commercial services increasingly sophisticated, satellite-based services are still considered as “innovation” rather than “practice”.

The 13th IWA International Conference on Water Reclamation and Reuse hosted by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) will be held from 15th – 19th January 2023. 

About the Congress

ICID has been organizing its flagship triennial event International Congress on Irrigation and Drainage since 1951. The 1st ICID Congress was held in 1951 at Delhi and so far ICID has held 23 Triennial Congresses.

Hydroinformatics is defined as the study of the flow of information and the generation of knowledge related to the dynamics of water in the real world, through the integration of modelling, information technologies and artificial intelligence considering sustainability and social implications for decision support and smart management of water-based systems.

The official theme for the 18th Leading Edge Conference on Water and Wastewater Technologies (LET2023) is achieving sustainability through water technology. 

The IWA Leading Edge Conference on Water and Wastewater Technologies is designed to be the place for sharing the latest insights into how pioneering science, technological innovation and leading practices will shape the major transformation in water management that is underway.

The International Symposium on River Sedimentation (ISRS) is a triennial event initiated in 1980 by the Chinese Hydraulic Engineering Society (CHES) with the support of UNESCO. The objective of ISRS is to provide a forum for scientist, engineers, researchers and decision makers to exchange ideas, research results, advanced techniques, and to share their experiences and information on sediment study and management. The International Research and Training Center on Erosion and Sedimentation (IRTCES) in Beijing is the permanent secretariat of ISRS.

The largest international meeting in the water sector is planned to be held in Bali on 18-24 May 2024 with the theme "Water for Shared Prosperity" to answer global challenges and potentials caused by increasing population growth and urbanization.

The forum will promote and further the agenda to achieve not only Goal 6 on clean water and sanitation, but all SDGs by highlighting factors for conservation, environmental protection, and integrated water management approach.

"Advances in large-domain hydrometeorological modelling and prediction to support water management" is part of The Topical Webinar Series hosted by the Core Modelling and Forecasting Team of the Global Water Futures program is a weekly event from May to August. In contrast to thematic webinars, this series highlights science advances from across the globe and aims to spur critical discussions that will improve our understanding and capability in modelling and managing cold-region hydrology.

The Conference will aim to inspire action-oriented commitments by stakeholders at all levels. These commitments will comprise the “Water Action Agenda” – a platform for voluntary commitments and new and innovative approaches.

Danube Conferences traditionally are the common connections of the hydrological regional cooperation. These meetings commenced in Budapest in 1961. Since 1975, cooperation has been conducted within the framework of the International Hydrological Programme (IHP) of UNESCO.

Background

In the coming decades increasing population will drastically rise the demand for freshwater. Today, more than 600 million people lack access to safe drinking water and estimates show that with current practices, the world will face a 40% shortfall between forecast demand and available supply of water by 2030. Needs to increase agricultural production will significantly impact water withdrawals and will increase stress on people living in regions already suffering from water scarcity.
